Obituary of Jesus Vicinaiz
Please share a memory of Jesus to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jesus Vicinaiz, 82, of Los Fresnos, TX passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Sunshine Haven in Olmito, TX.
Jesus was born on October 15, 1941, in Los Fresnos, Texas, where he resided the majority of his life. He graduated from Los Fresnos High School in 1961 and remained a lifelong Falcon fan. Upon graduation, Jesus attended North Texas State University for his post-secondary education. In 1965, Jesus joined the United States Air Force Reserves, which provided a segue into his United States Postal Service (USPS) career. During his 30 years with the USPS, Jesus served in a variety of positions from postal carrier to postmaster.
Jesus' need to serve his community expounded beyond the Postal Service. He was an active member and held a variety of leadership roles in the Jaycee's, St. Cecilia Knights of Columbus, St. Cecilia Minister of Hospitality, and the Pan American Golf Association (PAGA). In 1974, he began his political career as a Los Fresnos City Alderman and in 1982 he was the first elected Hispanic mayor of Los Fresnos.
While serving his community and church were a priority for Jesus, his love for his family and zest for life were evident to all. Jesus was a doting husband, father and grandfather, who always put his family first. He was the fun uncle who made his nieces and nephews laugh. He was a sports' enthusiast who lived an active life whether it be on the softball field, bowling alley, golf course or just walking his dog. He was definitely not a sit-still kind of person.
His greatest joys revolved around his family and outings with friends. He was always ready for a Vicinaiz family gathering, celebrating with family and friends, or just socializing with colleagues, golfers, high school buddies or his breakfast crew.
Jesus' dedication to his family, willingness to serve his community, and unwavering faith in God will remain with us all.
He is preceded in death by his precious son, Jamie Vicinaiz; his benevolent father, Inez Vicinaiz; prayerful mother, Anita Rivas Vicinaiz; his fun-loving brothers, Vicente Vicinaiz, Inez Vicinaiz and Juan Ismael Vicinaiz; brother-in-laws, Eduardo Cantu and Erwin W. Scott Jr., and sister-in-law Maria de la Luz Vicinaiz.
Left to cherish his memories is his beloved wife of 57 years, Maria Socorro Vicinaiz; his dutiful daughters, Ana (Mark) Holland and Jessica (Alex) Martinez.
He will be immensely missed by his siblings, Mercedes Cantu, Miguel (Manuela)Vicinaiz, Guadalupe (Pana) Scott, Andrea (Guadalupe Walle) Gonzalez, Alberto (Marie) Vicinaiz and Gil (Maria Pura) Vicinaiz. In addition, he is survived by his cherished grandchildren, Rene Jesus Burnias, and Karla Ann (Angel) Besanceney.
