Ovilia “Bila” Moreno Tapia, 85 of Los Fresnos, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at her residence in Los Fresnos.

 

Ovilia M. Tapia was born in 1934 at her families ranch off tract 43 in Bayview TX. Bila was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

 

She attended the Los Fresnos school district and graduated in 1952. She had lifelong friends that truly were like family to her.

 

In 1961 she married the love of her life. Together they raised three children and went through life as a team.

 

She was an entrepreneur and started her first business when she was just out of high school. She later worked for Luby’s, V.I.C.C. and Rancho Viejo Resort, where she was in charge of pastries and catered numerous events. She was a very talented cake artist and seamstress. She made hundreds of birthday and wedding cakes as well as many wedding dresses.

 

In 1975 she founded and ran Tapia’s Café. She was a successful businesswoman when women did not have the opportunities that are available today. She loved her work and operated her business for 40 years.

 

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters. She loved the sisterhood she found there and enjoyed attending the different functions with her dear friends.

 

Above all she was a loving mother to her three children Ray, Ovilia and Fred. She was their biggest cheerleader and supported their every endeavor.

 

Spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was her greatest joy.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Tapia; mother, Anita V. Moreno; father, Jose S. Moreno; siblings, Eulalia Moreno, Carlos Moreno, and Hijinio Moreno.

 

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ray (Cristina U.) Tapia, Ovilia (Chuck Danz) Tapia, and Fred (Rosie) Tapia; grandchildren, Kristine Ovilia Downs, Daisy Tapia, Frank Tapia, and Rosie Tapia; step grandchildren, Amada Castillo, Carlos Castillo, Aaron Castillo, Melissa Castillo; great grandchildren, Kiley Vega and Shane Vega; step great grandchildren, Chris Bonilla, Stephan Martinez Jr., and David Castillo; siblings, Eudelia (Crispin) Carraveo, Jesus Moreno, Jose (Esther) Moreno Jr., Ramon (Eva) Moreno, and Carlos (Mary) Moreno.

 

Visitation will begin Wednesday, October 2, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 606 W. Ocean Blvd., Los Fresnos, Texas.

 

Visitation will resume at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church with a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
