Obituary of Seferino Rivera

Seferino Rivera, 86, of Laguna Vista, Texas passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019, in Brownsville, Texas.

Seferino was born and raised in Port Isabel, Texas. He married Augustina Orduno in March 1952 and had four children. After serving in the United States Army, he worked for Twin Diesel for 40 years. Seferino left his mark in the Port Isabel community by being part of the construction of the first causeway to the island. He also served as a volunteer fire fighter and was an active member and eucharistic minister at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Matilde Rivera; 3 brothers, Modesto Rivera, Enrique Arriola, and Pomposo Arriola Jr.; and 1 sister, Maria Del Carmen Rivera.

Seferino is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Augustina O. Rivera of Laguna Vista, TX; children, Maria de Carmen (Ramiro) Delgado, Seferino Rivera Jr., Cecilia (Alfredo) Perez, and Bernice Rivera; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; his siblings, Eddie Arriola, Frances Tamez, Maria Battenfield, and Concepcion Howard.

Visitation will begin Monday, August 19, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St., Port Isabel, Texas.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church with burial to follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Ralph Delgado, Robert Delgado, Seferino Rivera III, Alfredo Perez, Jr., Kevin Perez, and Kamron Cortez.
