Obituary of Oscar Valenzuela
Oscar Valenzuela, 60, of Port Isabel, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 12, 2017.
Mr. Oscar Valenzuela (AKA Big “O”) started his long and faithful tenure with the department of parks and recreation on June 21, 1982; and Mr. Valenzuela was initially hired as an assistant carpenter for Isla Blanca Park working diligently to demonstrate his capacity and leadership skills, earning him various promotions throughout his noteworthy career, eventually becoming the foreman of the construction division for parks; and Mr. Valenzuela graduated from Mission High School in 1976 and immediately thereafter joined the United States Armed Forces; and Mr. Valenzuela dedicated twelve years of his life serving his country from 1976-1988, receiving an honorable discharge at the end of his military career; and Mr. Valenzuela attended Texas State Technical College from 1980-1982, graduating with an Associate’s Degree in Nuclear Technology; and he has admirably served with distinction and has exemplified a strong commitment to Cameron County assisting in countless park projects that have contributed to the quality of life for both the citizens and visitors of Cameron County; and Mr. Valenzuela successfully fulfilled his duties as an employee with the love and support from his wife Judith Mary Valenzuela and his two children, JoAnn and Sarah Lynn Valenzuela, and on March 31, 2017, Mr. Valenzuela entered into retirement as construction foreman after thirty-five years of service to spend time with his family and grandchildren, and to enjoy some of his favorite past times like fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by parents, Juan and Victoria Valenzuela; brother Camilo Valenzuela; and father-in-law, Pablo Villarreal.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Valenzuela; two daughters: JoAnn Valenzuela and Sara Lynn (Nicholas) Valenzuela-Gonzalez; three grandchildren: Jazmin Trujillo, Sara Nichole Gonzalez, and Nicholas Isaac Gonzalez; two sisters: Josefina (Victor) Alaniz and Lupe (Juan) Mendoza; two brothers: Juan Jose Valenzuela and Candelario Valenzuela; mother-in-law, Anita Villarreal; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria Street in Port Isabel, Texas.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Military honors to be conducted after the mass by V.F.W. Post 2035 of Brownsville and V.F.W. Post 8791 of Port Isabel. Cremation will follow in accordance to his wishes.
Serving as pallbearers are: Candelario Valenzuela, Pablo Villarreal Jr., Pablo Villarreal III, Victor Alaniz, Omar Calvillo, Raymond Martinez, Nicholas Gonzalez, and Mark Lopez.
