I worked with Oscar for his last 2 years of service to Cameron County Parks. I was hired to replace a position that was held by a very popular individual as he advanced. Oscar told me a year after I started that "You know some folks didn't like you cause they thought you were a little stuck up, but I guess they think your ok now". I know the "they" meant him, which was a big compliment from "Big O". I guess he felt that way because he found out that we both came from "Not Much". Oscar's gift to me was always laughter, he would share jokes and I would tell some bad jokes in return. There is one that will be our joke and I'll tell it to him again in Heaven if I get there with him. "There were two cowboys riding down the road when they ran into an old Indian listening to the ground with his ear in the dirt. The first cowboy said, "hey you old Indian what you hearing in the ground?. The old Indian with ear to the ground said, One wagon 4 horses one women and child with bonnet. The second cowboy said, "you mean you can tell all that by listening to the ground! The old Indian lifted his head slightly and said NO, run over me about an hour ago......We laughed for about 3 days and we had an understanding then. I am so thankful to Oscar for our relatively short time working together, and as I found out that he had a heart of gold when he talked and showed me pictures of his family, I guess you know a man...I'm sorry he is gone, but I will celebrate his life......

I am so sorry for your loss. Words cannot explain the pain a family goes through when a loved one dies and it is during these times when one seeks to their family and friends for comfort. Someone that extends their comfort to us during time like these is God for he is the God of all comfort. He asks us to throw our load on him so that we can endure through trying times. Not only that but God gives us a beautiful promise that He will soon fulfill. It is written in Johns 5:28,29 " Do not marvel at this for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life." Here God tells us that soon we will be reunited with our loved ones because he will give them life again like he made it possible in the olden times. He is eager to do so. What we must do is listen to His word and obey it so that we may too have this chance. Once again, I am so sorry for your loss.

My sincere condolences to Judy and the entire family. Oscar was such a good man. I always enjoyed his laughter and wonderful sense of humor, whenever he would come in to Doggett and outside of work. May you all feel God's hands on your shoulders as you struggle with this great loss in your life. Always look to the sky. Oscar will be watching all of us.
