Obituary of Roberto Salazar Jr

Roberto "Bobby" Salazar Jr., 40, of San Benito, Texas, entered into rest on January 8, 2015 at his residence.
A lifelong resident of San Benito, he loved to fish and hunt. He was a loving father to his kids Christopher and Sabrina, a loving son, brother and friend.
Bobby joined the Texas Army National Guard in 2005, where he started basic training in FT Jackson, SC and was awarded his wheeled certification vehicle mechanic from the 187TH Ordnance Corp in FT Jackson SC. After completion of basic training and AIT, he served with the Texas Army National Guard, SPC Salazar was deployed to Kosovo in 2006 in support in Operation Enduring Freedom. During his time of service, SPC Salazar received the following medals and ribbons; Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M" device. When returning from Kosovo, Bobby received his Texas Peace Officer Commission he worked for the Rio Hondo Police Dept.,Combes Police Dept and Cameron County Constables.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Francisco and Maria Cerda Hernandez and his paternal grandparents, Lorenzo and Rosa Salazar
Left to cherish his memory are his 2 children; Sabrina and Christopher Salazar, his parents; Roberto Salazar Sr. and Olga Salazar, brothers; Michael Salazar and Charlie Weaver. Robert is also survived by his uncles; Antonio "Mon" Mendoza Jr., Alberto Flores, Clemente Hernandez, Francisco Hernandez Jr., Ricardo Salazar, and Aunts; Frances Mendoza, Terry Flores, and Minnie Salazar, cousins; Antonio Mendoza III, David Mendoza, Sergio Mendoza, Edna Estrada, Ernie Estrada, Edward Estrada, Ricardo Salazar Jr., Maryann Salazar, Veronica Salazar- Martinez, Monica Salazar, Carolyn Cantu, JT Cantu, John Cantu, and Maryann Cantu. As well as many other relatives.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 12, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home.
Chapel service will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with a funeral procession departing the funeral home at 12 noon for a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. with Military Honors at the Rio Grande Valley State Veteran Cemetery, 2520 S. Inspiration Rd, Mission TX.
