Epifanio "Caramelo" Villarreal, 80, of Laguna Heights/Port Isabel, Texas, peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on December 6, 2014. Epifanio served in the United States Army as a paratrooper before his honorable discharge. He was a lifetime resident of Port Isabel and a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. He worked for over 40 years as a shrimper in the shrimping industry and for Bayside Net and Twine/Sea Garden Industry. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Minerva Villarreal; parents, Esteban and Dolores Barrera Villarreal; and one sister, Rita Villarreal Salazar. Epifanio is survived by his loving wife, Delfina A. Villarreal; five sons: Juan Jose Aguilar, Arnulfo A. Villarreal, Refugio A. Villarreal, Leonardo Villarreal, and Victor Villarreal; three daughters: Dolores Villarreal, Lucy Villarreal, and Laura Villarreal; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two nieces, Sulema and Irma Salazar; and five nephews: Jaime, Gerardo, Jr., Reymundo, Javier, and Julio Salazar. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 9th, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St. in Port Isabel, Texas. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10th, 2014 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel, Texas. Interment will follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery with military honors to be conducted at graveside by past District 18 Commander Luis Lucio, VFW Post 2035 of Brownsville, VFW Post 8791, and American Legion Post 498, both of Port Isabel.
