South Padre Island, TX - Clyde E. Sharpe, 80, passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2008, succumbing to cancer. He was born April 5, 1928 in Wichita Kansas to Edith and Clyde E. Sharpe, Sr. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles. He grew up in Hollywood, CA with his father who passed away when Clyde was 16 years old. He then lived with his Aunt Cloma and Uncle Charles Sharpe for several years. He received a football scholarship from Tulsa University. He was in the R.O.T.C. and served in the Korean War where he became a medic for the 279th Infantry Regiment, 45th division combat team. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant and was awarded many medals including the Bronze Star. Clyde worked for the Sinclair Oil Company for many years and then bought his own company and retired in 1990. Clyde was a long time resident of South Padre Island, Texas, he was a Mason and also a member of the Elks Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Ally; daughter, Steffany; grandson, Hunter; brother, Vance; aunt, Cloma; cousin, Rosemary; and faithful beagle, Poco.
A celebration of his life to be held on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 5:00 P.M. at Jake's Restaurant located at 2500 Padre Blvd on South Padre Island, TX. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes to be made in Clyde's name to Sunshine Haven, Inc., P.O. Box 4478, Brownsville, Texas 78523-4478.
