South Padre Island, Texas: Murat (Turk) Regep, 77 passed away on March 16, 2007 at his residence on South Padre Island (S.P.I.). Born in Albania on January 09, 1930, he moved to the United States when he was four years old. He lived in New England and graduated with honors from the University of Connecticut. Moving to South Padre Island in 1979, he held various positions in the bar and restaurant industry at Bahia Mar, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Veranda and Mira Mar. For past 23 years, he owned and operated Turk's Bar at Saida Towers. To many, he became the father of all the original bartenders on South Padre Island. A true legion! Who helped to make S.P.I. the community it is today, he will be missed for his compassion, wit, unending stories and gravel voice. He survived by his beloved wife Sami, four children, eight grandchildren, one brother, and two sisters, several nephews and nieces and many friends. In lieu of flowers, a Turk Regep Memorial Fund is set up at South Padre Bank, Donations may be mailed to P.O. Box 3367, South Padre Island, Texas 78597. A celebration of Turk's life will be held on Wednesday April 11, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. Saida Tower pool side, 400 Padre Blvd. in South Padre Island, Texas. Long live the Turkalada!!!
