Elida Guevara, 78, of Port Isabel, Texas, entered into rest on August 24, 2014. Elida was a lifetime resident of Port Isabel and a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She worked as a cook for 22 years at Beachcomber Corral and Polly's Restaurant on South Padre Island. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Maximo Chapa; her parents, Pedro and Rosa Flores Guevara; sister, Leonor Guevara; and three brothers: Nesto Guevara, Juan Antonio Guevara, and Presilano Guevara. She is survived by her children: Dora Nelly Martinez, Rosa Isela Chapa, Mario A. (Palmira) Chapa, and Thomas (Juanita) Guevara; 12 grandchildren: Robert Martinez, Jesus Roel (Ana) Martinez, Jorge S. Martinez, Roel H. (Sonia M. Yanez) Chapa, Mario Chapa, Jr., Roseanne Chapa, Roxanne Chapa, Alex Guevara, Jesenia Guevara, Aron Guevara, Thelma Gonzalez, and Ernesto Guevara; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers: Carlos Guevara, Mario Guevara, and Guadalupe Guevara; and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St in Port Isabel. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery.
