Domingo H. Chavez, Jr., 65, of San Benito, Texas, entered into rest on July 8, 2014. Domingo was born on August 21, 1948 to Delfina Huerta and Domingo Chavez, Sr. in Corpus Christi, Texas. He served in Vietnam from 1967-1968 with the United States Army and the United States Air Force. He was a police officer with the Brownsville Police Department, Deputy Sherriff for Cameron County and later became a private investigator. He was a good, generous soul and a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughters, Adrianna Chavez and Maria Andrea Chavez. He was survived by his wife of many years, Herlinda Chavez, his daughter, Catherine Chavez, and son Domingo Chavez III. Also surviving him are his siblings, Alma (Robert) Gonzalez and Gregorio Chavez; and granddaughter, Rebecca Calderon. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 9 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 pm, with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm, at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas. Full military honors will be conducted at graveside by American Legion John Hanson Post 43.
