San Benito, Tx - Canuto (La Pantera Negra) Rivera, 86, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2011 in Harlingen, Texas.
He had always been a hard working man and will be greatly missed.
His preceded in death by his wife, Maria de Jesus Rivera; his son, Canuto Rivera, Jr.; parents, Candelario and Maria Rivera; and other relatives.
He is survived by his children: Maria Del Rosario (Mathew) McColley of Sabula, IA, Leticia Rivera of San Benito, Juan Rivera of San Benito, Jose L. (Lee) Gonzalez of McAllen; Grandchildren: Veronica Rivera of San Benito and David Gonzalez of McAllen. Grandchildren living in Mexico include Juan Rivera Jr., Maria Maura Rivera, and Angelica Moreno. He is also survived by one brother Jose Rivera of San Benito; and three sisters Angela Rodriguez, Carmen Guzman, and Dominga Castillo, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito on Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday, May 13, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Benedict Catholic Church in San Benito. Interment to follow at San Benito City Cemetery.
