San Benito, Texas Rafael C. Gomez, 65 of San Benito, Texas passed away on May 15, 2007 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. Mr. Gomez was born in Los Ebanitos Ranch in Santa Monica, Texas. He was a self employed Diesel Mechanic until his retirement in 1999. He was also a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. Mr. Gomez was a proud Vietnam War Veteran serving in the United States Army with the 5th Cavalry. He was a member of the VFW Post 2410 of Harlingen, Texas and a member of the San Benito Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife of 39 years; Elsie C. Gomez of San Benito, Texas, his 2 sons; Lionel (Edna) Lomas of Chicago, Illinois and George (Julissa) Gomez of San Benito, Texas. 2 daughters; Elizabeth Garcia of Port LaVaca, Texas, and Kerry Reeves of San Benito, Texas, 8 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren, Brother; Placido (Emma) Gomez, Jr. of Baytown, Texas. 3 Sisters; Amelia Ince of Harlingen, Texas, Ernestina Garcia of Santa Monica, Texas, Herminia (Ruben) Leal of Hutto, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Placido & Rebecca C. Gomez; 2 Brothers; Robert Gomez, and Ernesto Gomez. Serving as his pallbearers will be, Richard Villarreal, Santana Anaya, Luis Gomez, Arnoldo Guerrero, Juan Munoz, and Jacob Reeves. His honorary pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus and the members of the VFW Post 2410. Times of service are as follows: Visitation on Thursday, May 17, 2007 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m., the funeral service will be held on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. @ St. Benedict Catholic Church with interment to follow @ the Mont-Meta Memorial Park.
