Obituary of Fernando Vigil

Fernando C. Vigil, 74, of Port Isabel, Texas, entered into eternal rest on January 5, 2014 at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas.
Those who knew Fernando remember him as a great singer and bartender. He will be remembered for riding his bicycle and jogging down Highway 100. He was a true boxing fan who loved fishing, going to dog races, playing chess, and golf. He loved to teach all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren his songs. He was a loving father who kept his family together and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margarita Chavez Vigil; father, Atanacio Vigil; two sisters, Mercedes V. Welch and Guadalupe V. Gutierrez; brother, Mario Chavez Vigil; brothers-in-law, Antonio Alamo and Roman Gutierrez; niece Lourdes Ochoa; and nephew Mario Gutierrez.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Elvira "Nena" Vigil; his children: Irene (Hector) Martinez, Diana (Danny) Delgado, Belinda (Jesus) Mayor, Joe (Dolores) Vigil, and Rolando Vigil; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; his sister, Socorro Alamo; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Visitation will continue from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a holy rosary at 7:00 pm, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church located on 705 S. Longoria St in Port Isabel.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Cremation will follow in accordance to his wishes.
Serving as pallbearers: Abel Woods, Aaron Woods, David Isaac Garcia, Poncho Gutierrez, Greg Gutierrez, Ramon Gutierrez, Lalo Alamo, Manito Torres, Jr, and Cary B. Causey. Honorary Pallbearers are: Dylan Perez, Joel Vigil, Jeff Lang, and Daniel Galvan.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made in memory of Fernando C. Vigil to Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel.
