Carlos Alfredo Gavito Sr.
INDIAN LAKE, TX - Carlos A. Gavito, Sr., 82, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, June 7, 2008.
He was born in Brownsville, TX on March 19, 1926 to Valentin A. Gavito, Sr., and Consuelo T. Gavito.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Valentin A. Gavito, Jr.
He is survived by his children, Carlos A. Gavito, Jr., (Stacy); Carey F. Gavito, Sr., Lucinda L. Hernandez (Rudy), and Andres D. Gavito (Mary Jo) and his 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; his brother J.E. Gavito and sisters Connie G. Booth, Maya G. `White, Celia G. Cruse, Graciela Gavito and Lydia G. Brackney.
Carlos honorably served in the U.S. Army Air Corp, 306th Bomb Group during WWII and also served in the Korean War. After valiantly serving his country, he returned home and worked at a variety of trades. He worked for Booth Fisheries in Campeche, Mexico, crop dusted for local farmers in Brownsville, taught Shop and Automotive Repair Classes at Brownsville High School and finished his career serving his country again working for the U.S. Government Treasury Department as a U.S. Sky Marshall, U.S. Customs Patrol Officer and U.S. Customs Special Agent.
He retired from the U.S. Customs Service in 1988 and enjoyed his golden years doing what he loved to do best...play golf and be with his grand children as much as possible. He led a full and active life and was very dedicated to his family. He was a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and had numerous cousins.
Memorial and Visitation Services will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at 3:00 P.M. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Sunshine Haven in Brownsville, TX.
