Rio Hondo, TX- Raul Ortega, 80, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dolores R. Ortega; his parents: Victoria and Cleto Ortega; three brothers: Lazaro Ortega, Pedro Ortega, Sr., and Luis Ortega; and great-great granddaughter, Baby Lauren Caballero. He is survived by his nine children: Isabel (Jose) Garcia, Gracie (Armando) Ricones: Juanita (Joe) Conde, Armando (Maggie) Ortega, Oralia (Silverio) Rodriguez, Fidencio (Mandy) Ortega, Juan R. (Gladys) Ortega, Israel (Yolanda) Ortega, and Maria (Ricardo) Valadarez; He is also survived by five brothers, two sisters, twelve grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. Visitations will be held at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito on Saturday, April 16, 2011 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM and Sunday, April 17, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, April 18, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St Helen Catholic Church in Rio Hondo. Committal services will follow at San Vicente Cemetery in Rio Hondo.
