Obituary of Alfonso Barrientez

Alfonso V. Barrientez, 101, originally of Port Isabel but resident of Rio Hondo, Texas passed away on May 29, 2008 at Ebony Lake Nursing Home in Brownsville. Alfonso was born in Port Isabel, Texas and resided in Rio Hondo for the past 30 years. He was a life long member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church of Port Isabel and a shrimper in the shrimping industry for many years. He was a Navy veteran, serving his country during World War II and received an Honorable Discharge from United States Navy in October 23rd in 1945. He was a member of the American Legion Post 498 and V.F.W. Post 8791 both of Port Isabel. Alfonso was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Sara Barrientez; Daughter, Sister Dolores Barrientez; Son, Ignacio Barrientez; Parents, Pedro and Romana Valent Barrientez; 3 Brothers, Justo Barrientez, Lorenzo Barrientez and Manuel Barrientez; and 1 sister, Consuelo Esquitin. He survived by his wife, Olga G. Barrientez of Rio Hondo; 3 Sons, Alfonso (Esther) Barrientez Jr., John (Mary Ann) Barrientez of San Diego, CA, and Ricardo (Diana) Garcia of Rio Hondo, TX.; a Daughter in law, Aurora Garcia Barrientez of San Marcos; Several grandchildren and great grandchildren; 2 Brothers, Jimmy Barrientez of San Antonio, and Pete (Stella) Barrientez of Corpus Christi; 4 Sisters, Esperanza Garza, Viola Guillot both of Port Isabel, Sister Mary Stella Barrientez of Corpus Christi, and Isabel Perez of Brownsville; a sister in law, Aurora M. Barrientez of Port Isabel; along with several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held on Sunday June 01, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito and will continue from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St. in Port Isabel. Mass of Resurrection will be held 10:00 a.m. on Monday June 02, 2008 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel with Father Gerry Barrett officiating. Interment will follow to Port Isabel City Cemetery in Port Isabel, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Guillot, Donald Guillot, Mark Guillot, Ricardo Garcia, Ricardo Diaz and Mirto Alaniz, Jr.
Full Military Honors will be conducted at the graveside by the American Legion Post 205 of Harlingen and V.F.W. Post 2410 of San Benito, American Legion Post 498 and V.F.W. Post 8791 both of Port Isabel.
