South Padre Island, Texas: Juana Maria Pinkerton, a Spanish language radio personality in the 1950's, died at 87 on Sunday afternoon at her home in South Padre Island. The cause of death was cancer. Her death was announced by her son, Robert N. Pinkerton, Jr., of South Padre Island.
Throughout most of the 1950's, Mrs. Pinkerton was a radio personality for a chain of five Spanish language radio stations started by her husband, Robert N. Pinkerton and his partners. Her popular radio program, "Gira Comercial de Juana Maria", was broadcast along the Mexican border, in the Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Austin, Texas. A second station, XEOR, was added in Reynosa in 1950, and others were added subsequently, XEMT in Matamoros in 1950, KUBO in San Antonio in 1955, and KTXN in Austin in 1956. Mrs. Pinkerton retired from radio in 1967. In 2003, they moved to South Padre Island, Texas. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert N. Pinkerton of South Padre Island, Texas; her daughter, Sandra Pinkerton, of Plano, Texas and her son, Robert N.
