Obituary of Catarina Galvan

Catarina Perez Galvan, 89, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, entered into the glory of her eternal life on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.
Catarina was a lifetime resident of Port Isabel, Texas and a graduate of Port Isabel High School, Class of 1943. She ran the Dairy Mart and was very well known for her delicious burgers. She retired from the City of Port Isabel after many years of employment. She loved going to the maquinitas and playing bingo. Catarina was a very Christian woman, praying her rosary every day and professing her faith. She was a member of the Guadalupanas of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She was a wonderful role model to all her children, grandchildren, and to the rest of her family. She will be missed dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Santana Galvan, Sr.; parents: Luisa and Norberto Perez, Sr.; son Carlos Galvan, Sr.; grandson Carlos Galvan, Jr.; and brothers, Norberto Perez, Jr. and Pascual Perez.
Surviving her are her loving children: Santana Galvan, Jr., Alma (Butch) Mock, Maria Luisa "Lulu" (Pete) Garcia, and Bobby (Gracie) Galvan; and siblings: Joe (Emma) Perez, Mary Lou (+Arturo) Galvan, Emma (Jay) Barker, Rosemary Tousley, and Jimmy (Amparo) Perez. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren with another on the way, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a holy rosary at 7:00 pm, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St., Port Isabel, Texas.
Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, September 20, 2013 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are: Santana Galvan II, Pedro Garcia III, Joseph D. Galvan, Bobby Galvan II, Armando Garcia, Thomas R. Garcia, Sr., and Sidney D. Mock, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Perez and Joe Perez.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks, gratitude, and appreciation to Mari Medina, her caregiver for all her compassion and patience, and to Safe Haven Hospice employees Gabriel, RN and Elida, CNA.
