Obituary of Ellen Young
Please share a memory of Ellen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ellen Theresa Young from Laguna Vista, Texas passed peacefully at her home on June 10, 2013.
Ellen was born in Beaumont, Texas on May 3, 1920 to Fred and Frances Solana. Ellen was involved in the Junior Service League and the Laguna Madre Garden Club. She was very instrumental in the development of the Laguna Madre Library and the last surviving member of the Gabba Gabbas (social club for all of her good friends to sit and gab).
Ellen had a passion for books, fishing, and her family. She loved the beach, and spent many hours collection shells with her children and grandchildren. She loved to travel and once caught a huge blue marlin in Kina, Hawaii. She and her husband, Johnny, traveled extensively to Honduras, Nicaragua, Belize, Panama, and Korn Island just to name a few.
She was a strong independent woman who was loved by many. She always had time for a game or a piece of gum for a child. She was famous for her chili con queso at Christmas time. She was especially fond of her seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her three of her children: John (Cathrine) Young of Rancho Viejo, Sally (Malcolm*) Graham of Rancho Viejo, and Kay (Mike) Ezell of Port Isabel. She is also survived by her sister Frances Lois and brother Paul Dean. She joins her loving husband of 65 years, her son Fred, and her brother George, in heaven.
A private ceremony was held on June 15, 2013 by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren on South Padre Island.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Laguna Madre Library in Laguna Vista, Texas or to a charity of your choice.
