Schaumburg, IL/San Benito, TX- David G. Garcia, 71, passed away at his residence in Schaumburg, Illinois.
He proudly served in the US Air Force from 1962 - 1966. Basic training was in Lackland, AFB in San Antonio. He then was stationed in Wichita Falls, TX and finally at Orthello AFB, Washington, where he earned an honorable discharge. He attended many of his high school reunions for the "Class of 1961". He made many trips to the Valley with his wife, and after he became widowed, he continued to visit the Valley to reconnect with his family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel and Elvia Garcia; and his beloved wife, Jean Garcia.
He is survived by his siblings: Miguel (Alice) Garcia, Aurora "Aggie" (Jose Humberto "Toby") de la Rosa of San Antonio, Texas, Luis (Lily) Garcia of Brownsville, Texas, Abel Garcia, Maria Luz (Augustin) Perez, Roberto Garcia, and Daniel (Frances) Garcia, all of San Benito, Texas. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, one aunt, Cristina Garcia Castillo of Brownsville; and his stepchildren and their families from Illinois.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013 at RGV State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 S. Inspiration Rd, Mission, Texas.
