Ester Martinez Guzman entered heaven Monday, February 25, 2013 at age 82 in Harlingen, Texas. Ester was the eldest of four daughters that were blessings to Narciso (El Huracan del Valle) and Eduvina Martinez. She was born September 3, 1930 in Bishop, Texas and raised in La Paloma, Texas. She married Alberto L. Guzman on June 7, 1949. Ester was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She never shirked a task and had an abiding spirit with an always present sense of humor. She closely nurtured and raised 9 children with Alberto and could always be counted on to correct her children not to boast about tomorrow but "Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."(James 4:15) She was preceded in death by her parents: Narciso and Eduvina Martinez; her husband Alberto L. Guzman; two sons: Rodrigo and Gabriel Guzman; and sisters: Tiburcia Espinoza and Anastacia Leal. Ester is survived by her children: Jesse Guzman (Kathy), Guadalupe Guzman, Gracie Cooley (Ken), Wenceslao A. Guzman (Gracie), Alberto Guzman Jr. (Lupita), Jackie Guzman, Gus Guzman (Elizabeth); 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and sister Patricia M. Vasquez. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013 at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
