Our beloved mother and grandmother, Maria Pena (Yema), peacefully passed away at home on August 21, 2024. She was 94 years old. She was born on January 31, 1930, in Villa De Arriaga, San Luis Potosi. She is survived by her children, Margarito Jr. (Shelly), Manuel (Norma), Rosita, Jose, Yolanda, Rene, Irma (Fernando), Delma (Amadeo), Ramiro (John), and Silvia. Her legacy continues through her cherished 24 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren. She is now reunited in internal peace with her husband Margarito Pena Sr., son Roberto Pena; daughter, Sylvia Pena; her parents, Pedro Buendia and Gavina Gonzalez; and numerous siblings. Maria was the heart of our home and family. She will be remembered as a wonderful, caring mother who was always there when we needed her the most. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed working in her garden of roses. She loved cooking, sewing, knitting, and needlepoint. Maria was famous for always preparing her famous breakfast tacos and Thanksgiving stuffing for friends and neighbors. Most importantly, she loved helping people. Her proudest moments were obtaining her U.S. citizenship and voting for the first time. Maria will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire everyone blessed to have known her. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, TX. A Chapel Service will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito with cremation to follow in accordance with her wishes.
