Rebecca Borrego Parsons, 80, of Los Fresnos, TX, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2024, at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, TX. Rebecca lived most of her life and was raised in Los Fresnos, moved to Harlingen for several years and then finally to Brownsville. Rebecca was born in San Benito, TX on December 17, 1943, to Modesto Borrego & Maria Soto. She attended Los Fresnos schools up until her 8th grade year. She would be the first to tell you, “School is not for me, I like to work.” And work she did. Throughout her life, she worked for many area farmers in the Los Fresnos, Laureles and Bayview areas. Her family also traveled as migrant farm workers to out-of-state farms. From 1980-1985, she worked for LFCISD as a high school custodian. Before retirement, she and her husband, Ben Parsons, managed and operated their own business, Parsons Wholesale Nursery. She was proud of her work ethic and would give any employer 100%. She embodied integrity, kindness, loyalty and old-fashioned neighborly values. If you asked her for help, she never said no. She was a provider to a fault, but she wouldn’t have it any other way. She was quiet and that was okay, her actions always spoke louder than her words. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, a respectful daughter, a supportive sister and a loyal friend like no other. She never asked for much but would give you her all. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Sulema Borrego, Sonia Guerrero (Felipe) and Rafael Lucio (Diana). Her youngest daughter, Evelyn Lucio(Ɨ), preceded her in death; six grandchildren, Becky Marie Villegas, Kattie Annette Contreras, Laura Anahi Guerrero, Michael Anthony Garcia, Sergio Garcia, Jr. and Evelyn Adel Martinez; and 10 great grandchildren, Kayloni, Liam, Logan, Nick, Oliver, Miles, Arabella, Ariella, Michael Jr. and Violeta. She had numerous nieces and nephews but there are two that she saw as her own, Freddie and Jamie Castillo. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, TX. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 11:00 am at Our Heavenly Father Catholic Church, 9178 Tomas Cortez Jr St, Olmito, TX with interment to follow to Las Yescas Cemetery.
