Sylvia G. Ramirez passed away quietly in her home on Saturday, July 13, 2024, surrounded by her daughters. She is preceded in death by her husband, Mario Ramirez, her son, David Machuca, her parents, Teodoro and Amelia Abrego Garcia, and her siblings, Ernesto Garcia, Teodoro Garcia, Bernardo Garcia, and Hilda Garcia Cavazos. Sylvia was from San Benito but a long-time resident of The Region of Northwest, IN where she raised her children and worked at the onion factory in Chicago, at St. Catherine’s Hospital in East Chicago and at Highland Middle School in Northwest Indiana. She was a kind and creative soul who loved to challenge herself with different arts and crafts projects. With her beloved Mario, her husband of 25 years, she enjoyed going to fiestas and bailes. A social butterfly, she delighted in exchanging life stories with both new and old friends and celebrated family dinners for the holidays. She relished a good shopping excursion and participated in many activities, like chair volleyball, thematic parties & exercise and art classes at the Harlingen Senior Center enjoying her retirement life. Her dynamic spirit and genial laughter have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her unwavering faith in the Lord now grants her eternal rest in His kingdom. She will forever be remembered and celebrated for her extraordinary zest for life and boundless love. She will be laid to rest at Ridglawn Cemetary in Gary, IN next to her husband Mario in the fall.
