Jose Francisco D. Garza, 80, entered eternal rest Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. Jose was born on April 13, 1944, in Port Isabel, Texas to Alfredo and Maria Guadalupe Garza. He was a lifelong resident of Port Isabel. Jose proudly worked as an outboard mechanic and was well known as a captain of several fishing/shrimp boats. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, Amalia Valdez Garza, telling stories to his family, and making people laugh. He is preceded in death by his father, Alfredo Garza; mother, Maria Guadalupe Garza; daughter, Janie Marie Garza; brothers, Lucio Garza, Alfredo Dominguez Garza, and Ruben Garza; and sister, Hortencia Valdez. He is survived by his wife, Amalia Valdez Garza; children, Rosemary Rodriguez (Ruben), Jose Francisco Garza, Jr., Israel Garza (Kristeen), Terrie Villarreal (Luis), Preciosa Ruth Garza, and Johnny Joe Garza (Lorena); siblings, Preciosa Ruth Gomez and Celia Dominguez. In addition, he is survived by 27 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St, Port Isabel, TX. Visitation will follow on Friday, July 5, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, TX. with cremation will follow in accordance with his wishes.
