Maria Elena Gonzalez, 86, was the eldest of three sisters, gained her wings on Friday, June 14, 2024. She was born on October 3, 1937, to Pedro and Micaela Vasquez. Maria, a lifelong resident of San Benito, was a sweet lady with a big heart, she was loved by all who knew her. She married Jose Angel Gonzalez on August 9, 1956, and worked as a CNA for 27 years at Twin Brooke South Nursing Home. She enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, shopping, and her love for dancing began at La Villita. Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Micaela Vasquez; her husband, Jose Angel Gonzalez; sister, Lupe Gonzalez, and daughter, Gloria Gonzalez. She is survived by her sister, Antonia Ortega; her children, Irma Estella Mills, Juan Gonzalez, Rosalinda Trevino, Sandra Anzaldua, Graciela Barnett, Jesus Gonzalez, Jose Angel Gonzalez Jr., and Angelita Gonzalez; 22 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A Chapel Service will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home with a burial to follow to Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas. Serving as pallbearers are Benito Peña Jr., Joey Lopez, Joe Treviño, Robert Anzaldua, Joe Barnett, and Carlos Angel Villegas.
