Hello Searle Family,
I am truly feeling Johns passing as one of my own. Some of you may remember me. I was a renter in the downstairs apt. I have had opportunity to tell of John in stories of the past . I always called him James Bond in Levis . So eloquent and yet he could be found on a Sunday picking fruit with his lovely wife. He WAS Mr Belize and that country as well as all who met this dapper ,kind , passionate man were better for it. Jonny Watt I'm sorry for your loss.

Johnny first of all I will always miss you. I think of you as my brother and I have known you for over 65 years. That is surely a long time and never a harsh word between us. There are so many memories starting with your first date with my sister “Bia” who later became Bia Searle. Your understanding, compassion and finding solutions to life problems will always stand out in my memories of you. On the lighter side your big smile, jokes, big laughter and always finding the proper words to say to make us all realize that life is beautiful.

I am sincerely sorry about the passing of my dear long-time, friend since 1952, JOHN SEARLE. I met John soon after his arrival in Belize, British Honduras (currently, Belize City, Belize) as we both embarked, along with 18 other boys and 21 girls, as pioneering students at Technical High School, in Belize. On January 7, 1952, the School had just opened it gates to admit students to this new form of High School education and subjects. I’ve kept in touch with John over the years and whenever (relatively rarely) I visit my native country of Belize I always make it a point to drop in at his office on Regent Street.
Please know that I offer the entire family my sincere Condolences and PRAYERS for strength and coping. I have already had a special PRAYER said at my White Oaks UNITED Church here in London, Ontario, CANADA last Sunday Morning.
I have attached a few pictures, most of which were taken at our Technical High School Class Reunion in 2002 at various places in Belize, i.e. Princess Hotel, at the Conference Centre he operated along the Belize Western Highway and at his house at St. Georges Caye. The last two were taken in 1953 when we were in 2nd Form at Technical High School. We were the FIRST set of students to attend Technical High School, starting on January 7, 1952, when it opened, and we finished in December 1955 (four years), after which John got a job as a Clerk at Barclays Bank.
The thing I wanted to bring out here is that John has always recognized all his first friends (Classmates) in British Honduras, to the very end. Here is a note I sent to a friend who first informed me of John's Passing.
“Oh my goodness! Thanks for sharing this information! He was my High School Classmate at Technical High School 1952 – 1955! He arrived in British Honduras in 1951, with his brother Peter and father Mr. Searle. Mr. Searle had com to British Honduras to take charge of Carpentry at Public Works department! No mother or wife came along! They lived at a resident at Newtown Barracks near the ZiK2 Radio Broadcasting Station. Later Mr. Searle became attached to Madam Lizarraga’s daughter and fathered a son with her. John’s first job after High School was with Barclay’s bank in Belize City! We have kept in contact over the years! May he Rest In Peace!”
For your information, I have two pictures (paintings of parts of Belize) hanging on my Dining and Living Rooms walls, given to me on two different occasions by John.

I traveled to Belize for the first time in 1981 to visit my college roommate Gigi, I fell in love with both Belize and the Searle family who welcomed me with open arms and a friendship which has lasted over 40 years. Johnny and Bea’s generosity with flights to Panama and Costa Rica fuelled my love of travel and an interest in Belize. I have been fortunate to see the family over the years, the anticipation is always great, the parting sad. I will celebrate the life of Johnny, a life well lived by a truely extraordinary man. Thank you Mr Searle, rest in peace.
