Look Forward to the Glorious
For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. Philippians 3:20–21
Our bodies are amazing. I’ve actually heard that scientists can’t understand why we die, because the body has the ability to heal and repair itself. They are at a loss to explain that. Of course, we know that sin causes our bodies to deteriorate and die (Rom. 6:23). But the body is still an amazing thing created by God. Yet, Paul calls it a “vile” thing. It’s vile in comparison to what God intended it to be and compared to what it’s going to be.
It’s often said that people only use 10 percent of their brains. I believe God never intended for that to be the way it is. I believe that we have the capacity for much, much more. In a sense, I believe in evolution. But it’s de-evolution! We’ve evolved downward. Adam was able to name every animal in the world. That’s just amazing to think about.
Even if you go back and read books from 200 or 300 years ago, most people would need a dictionary to understand them. Just a few hundred years ago, people had a vocabulary that was much stronger than ours. For example, children in the first grade could memorize and quote things that most adults today could not even comprehend. We have the capacity for more, but we just aren’t living up to it. The good news is you have a better body awaiting you. That means we shouldn’t be so dependent upon satisfaction in this life. The best is yet to come. I’m here because God has given me an assignment. I may not have finished it yet, but I’m looking forward to someday having a new body that will just zip from one side of the universe to the other, to know all things even as also I am known (1 Cor. 13:12), to have no more sorrow or crying (Rev. 21:4), and be in a state where former things will never even come to mind (Is. 65:17). If you are born again, your future is so bright you’re going to have to squint to look at it!
