Obituary of Santa Sylvia Hernandez
Please share a memory of Santa to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Santa Sylvia Hernandez, 65, was born on November 3, 1958, in El Ranchito, Texas to Maria and Julian Juarez. She passed away on February 28, 2024, at Harlingen Medical Center surrounded by her loving and devoted family that never left her side. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Santa Sylvia was a lifetime resident of El Ranchito, Texas. She was a very diligent migrant worker traveling to and from Texas to Oregon to work the fields with her family. She also worked with John Kent in the nursery and that is where her love of plants blossomed. She then went on to work at Fruit of the Loom and afterwards advanced to a Medical Office Specialist.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maria and Julian Juarez; her only son, Juan Ramon “Pandi” Hernandez Jr; her brothers, Israel “Relo” Juarez (Victoria) and Jesus Chuy Juarez Sr. (Maria); and her sister, San Juana Garcia (Baldomero).
She is survived by her husband, Juan Ramon Hernandez Sr.; her only daughter, Laura Hernandez (Chuck); her three grandchildren, Mariah K. Mena, Luis Mena IV, and Juan R. Mena; her sister Guadalupe Garcia (Carlos); as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews. A special thank you to her loving, caring niece who she adored, Alicia Juarez Ortega (Ignacio) who she knew she could count on to help with her care day or night.
Santa Sylvia loved her family tremendously, especially her three grandchildren: Mariah, Luis, and Juan Mena. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, music, dancing, taking care of her family, and a good laugh with friends and family. She was always loving, kind, and supportive. Always sacrificed her own needs for the good of her family. She will be greatly missed by all her family and loved ones.
