John M. Rodriguez, Jr., 78, of Los Fresnos, TX passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Harlingen Medical Center. Born in Denver, Colorado, John's journey led him to the heart of Kansas, where he embarked on a remarkable chapter of his life in the Military. He joined the Airforce in 1964 that eventually led him to cross paths with the love of his life, Barbara Kalie Rodriguez. In the sacred bonds of matrimony, John and his beloved wife, Barbara, united in 1969. As John tells the story, he bought Barbara an ice cream cone and she immediately fell in love with him. After 15 fulfilling years in Kansas together, they planted roots in the welcoming community of Los Fresnos, Tx. John's adoration for his wife and son, Michael, knew no bounds. His willingness to share stories about his son, brimming with love, was a testament to the deep affection he held in his heart. As life unfolded, John embraced the joys of grand fatherhood, welcoming a new level of love into his world with the arrival of his granddaughter, McKayla. His overwhelming affection for his "baby girl" was evident, showcasing a profound and heartwarming connection with his precious “Mikki.” A committed veteran, John devoted his days to volunteering at the Veterans' Administration Office in Harlingen, Tx, even in the face of his health challenges. His unwavering dedication extended beyond his own well-being as he continued to selflessly serve his fellow veterans. John's enthusiasm for war history manifested in the creation of numerous meticulously crafted model war airplanes, now proudly displayed in a special exhibit at the VA in Harlingen. His profound love for hearing veterans recount their stories reflected his patient and compassionate nature, embodying his mission to make a positive impact on the lives of those who served. In addition to his military service, John was a steadfast Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Los Fresnos, contributing his time and commitment for an impressive 24 years. Regardless of the health or weather, John stood ready to serve his church community and always extend a helping hand to anyone in need; he was truly a servant of God. John is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, his son Michael (Rocio), and his granddaughter, McKayla. John's legacy is one of love, loyal service, and unwavering dedication to God, family, country, and community. His impact on the lives of those he touched will forever be remembered with fondness and gratitude. While we mourn the passing of his absence, we take great comfort in knowing that he has been welcomed into the eternal presence of our Lord. “During this difficult time of mourning, we find comfort in knowing that John’s daughter-in-law Rocio “Little Rocio” was not only close to John but also provided loving support to both John and Barbara. Her presence and assistance have been a source of strength and comfort in our lives and during this difficult time.” Memorial Service will be held on March 2, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Los Fresnos, 300 E Ocean Blvd, Los Fresnos, TX.
