Anthony (Sonny) F. DePalma, age 76, arrived in Heaven on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 12:49pm. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joyce A. DePalma. Anthony was originally from Bayshore of Long Island, New York and retired to South Padre Island, Texas with his wife in 1995. He is survived by his beloved sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Frank Arcuri. Anthony is also survived by his six loving children and their spouses: Anthony III and Diana DePalma of Bohemia, NY; Janie D'ellamore of Paisley, FL; Jacqueline and Jeffrey Smith of Granger, IN; Kelly and Joel Esposito of Selden, NY; Ronald and Elizabeth DePalma of Weslaco, TX; and Monique and Thomas Young of Bohemia, NY. He leaves behind 22 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren: Paige, Anthony IV, Jennifer, Roslyn, David, Caleb, Jessica, Joshua, Melody, Pearl, Amber, Victoria, Rachel, Rebecca, Dakota, Cassidy, Ronald Jr, Whitney, Brooke, Madison, Briana, Gabrielle; Deanna, Hanna, Donald Jr, and Cole.
Sonny could practically build anything. He worked as a Laborer foremen for Local 66 in New York for over 42 years. His workmanship can still be seen throughout New York as well as Texas. Some of the projects he had worked on were renovating JFK Airport, Macy's in NYC, The World Trade Center, Sayville High School and the Albany mall. He also had a side-business installing skylights mainly at Leisure Village of Ridge NY; where many of his customers were senior citizens whom he adored and was known to some as "Skylight-Sonny". Even after retiring to Texas, he continued to work. Whether it was a major renovation or just a quick repair, he was known to all as the Go-To-Guy. Some of us can still look around and may even be saying "I remember when Sonny built this, or built that for us".....truly his memory does live on.
In the end Sonny showed such courage because he had made his peace with God. He did not fear death because he had truly committed his entire life to Jesus and is now part of the great cloud of witnesses in the presence of God as mentioned in Hebrews 12:1.
Funeral service will be held from 2pm-4pm on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at the Island Baptist Church, 107 W. Mesquite St on South Padre Island. Interment will follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery.
