Brownsville/Izmal, MX - Hector Z. Garza was born in Brownville, TX on December 16, 1948. A loving son, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, companion and friend went to be with our Lord on April 3, 2007. He is survived by his mother Frances Z. Flores of Brownsville, TX; sister Carmen (Roger) Villarreal of Deer Park, TX; Nieces, Lt. Sabrina Villarreal, USMC of San Diego, CA and Joy Villarreal of Deer Park, TX; his longtime companion Jeanne P. Hunt; and his best friend of 35 years, Jack Jones of Austin, Tx. He was preceded in death by his father Samuel S. Garza.
Hector moved to Izamal, Mexico in 1990 where he opened his well known Mexican folk art store; Hecho a Mano, which was the beginning of some very fun times traveling, meeting people, finding art and new adventures. He proudly worked at his store until his death.
The funeral service was held in Merida, Mexico. A Memorial Service will be held in Izamal this Sunday April 22. A Holy Mass honoring the life of Hector will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church 2800 Rockwell Dr, Brownville, TX at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, April 23, 2007. Following the mass, a wreath lying ceremony will be held on the banks of the Rio Grande River, Hope Park, 1135 E. St Charles Street, Brownville, TX.
