Jose L. Gonzalez, 80, of Harlingen, TX passed away Monday, August 28, 2023, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. Jose retired from Rainbo Baking Company in Harlingen after 42 years of employment. He was a lifetime resident of Harlingen and San Benito, TX. He enjoyed walking around Harlingen City Lake. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, close friends, and fishing. He really loved his sweet bread and barbacoa. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lilia Rendon Gonzalez; son, Pablo Gonzalez; father, Julio Gonzalez; biological mother, Marcela Leija; mother that raised him, Maria B. Gonzalez; 3 brothers, Julio Gonzalez and Luis Gonzalez, Clemente Gonzalez; 2 sisters, Guadalupe Quiroz, and Anita Gonzalez. He is survived by his daughter, Ofelia (Fernando) Vasquez; 2 sons, Jose Gonzales, Jr., and Esteban (Jessica) Gonzales; daughter-in-law Celia Gonzales; his adopted son, Tereso (Elena) Guerra; grandchildren: Lilia Gonzales, Fernando Vasquez, Jr., Laura Anyssa Vasquez, Armando Jose Vasquez, Clarissa Belen Gonzales, Jose Gonzales III, Eloy Villarreal, Esteban Gonzales, Jr., and Kevin Michael Gonzales. He is also survived by 3 great grandchildren, Zoila Vasquez, Esteban Gonzales III, and Laurely Itzel Rodriguez. In addition, he is survived by his siblings, Eusebio Gonzales, Tomas Maldonado, Olga Maldonado, Aurora Maldonado, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by his longtime companion, Ninfa Martinez and his loyal dog, Myers. Visitation will be held Friday, September 1, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, TX. Chapel Service will be held Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, TX with interment to follow to Ashland Cemetery, 21037 Godwin Rd, Harlingen, TX 78550.
