Laguna Vista, TX- Richard W. Veach, 82, of Laguna Vista, TX passed away Saturday, December 15, 2007 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his Parents, B.F. and Ella Veach; 2 Sisters, Mary Veach and Louise Smith. Mr. Veach was a commercial fisherman from 1959- 1980. Before his retirement he own and operated Beach Shop in South Padre Island from 1980 through 1992. Richard served in World War II and was Honorably Discharge from United States Navy. During his tour of the North Alantic and Pacific Ocean, he survived the sinking of The USS Porter DD 356 on Oct. 26, 1942 and also was a survivor of sinking of The USS Barton DD 599 on Nov. 13, 1942. His awards included Purple Heart, American Theatre, Asiatic Pacific, European Theatre, Good Conduct, and World War II Victory Medal. He survived by his Children, Sue Carabello, Douglas Veach, Shane Veach, Shannon Veach, Cheyenne Veach, Sherry Camacho, Goldie Strader, and Candy Alansis; 19 Grandchildren; 2 Sisters, Evelyn Huthison and Edna Koster; Brother, Robert Veach; Visitation will be held today 12/16/07 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Graveside Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday 12/17/07 at Seadrift Cemetery in Seadrift, Texas. In lieu of Flowers Donations can be send in memory of Richard W. Veach to The First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 700, Seadrift, Texas 77983.
