Maria Isabel Camacho de Mora, 94, of Port Isabel, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 24, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Maria was born in Cruillas, Tamaulipas on April 8, 1926. She attended school in Matamoros, Tamaulipas. In her younger years, she worked at numerous hotels on the island as a housekeeper and later at Bayside Net and Twine Company. Maria was a parishioner at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel, TX where she was a longtime member of the Spanish Choir and the Guadalupanas. She also enjoyed attending a Spanish Retreat with the parish. Maria enjoyed traveling and loved cooking for her family and Compadres. She welcomed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they visited her and always offered to make them a warm meal. She is preceded in death by her husband, Abelardo “Lalo” Camacho, Sr.; Parents, Jose Angel Mora and Maria Isabel Mora de Cisneros; infant daughter, Gloria Camacho, and siblings, Evangelina Fuentes de Mora, Adelina Gonzalez de Mora, Jose Angel Mora, Juan Mora, Francisca Masso de Mora, Tencha Mora, and Servando Mora. Maria is survived by her loving children, Imelda (Leandro) Pena, Abelardo “Lalo” Camacho, Jr., Yolanda C. Garza (Edward Holland), Maria Isabel (Alberto) Rivera, and Jose Efrain Camacho (Ana Contreras), daughter-in-law, Debbie G. Camacho, 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S Longoria St, Port Isabel, TX with interment to follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Fernando Camacho, David Lee Pena, Abelardo Camacho III, Eric Lee Pena, Luis Alberto Rivera, and Demery Joe Morales. Honorary pallbearers are Drake Mathew Duran, David Lee Pena, Jr., Ian David Galvan, Austin Camacho, Jaycob W. Lee Harlow, Nathan Alec Gonzalez, Evan Joshua Galvan, Leelund James Harlow, Aston Camacho, Marcus Javan Garrido, Abram Joe Arevalo, and Lucas Alberto Rivera.
