Obituary of Conrado Lozano

Conrado Manuel Lozano passed way on December 5th in McAllen, Texas. He was born in Laredo on November 1, 1923. Conrado was a long-time resident of San Benito and Laguna Vista. During the past two years, he lived at the Brookridge Retirement Center in Pharr, at the Briarcliff and finally at the Texas State Veterans Home in McAllen. Conrado came from a pioneer family of South Texas, who settled in the towns of Old Guerrero, Mexico, Laredo and San Ygnacio. Conrado graduated from Martin High School in Laredo. He then attended Texas A&M University at College Station. Conrado was a member of the Texas A&M Army Corps of Cadets but when World War II broke out, Conrado volunteered, along with the rest of his Aggie class to fight in the war. As an Army soldier, he saw action in France and Germany and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war he returned to Texas A&M in 1946. He graduated in 1950 but is recognized as an alumnus of the Aggie Class of '45, which is the year he was due to graduate. Conrado graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering that led to a lifelong career with the then Texas Highway Department now the Texas Department of Transportation. Conrado was involved in the planning and designing of the Queen Isabella Causeway. Those who knew Conrado Lozano will remember a sharp minded man with an incredible knowledge of history. He had a gusto for life and a dry sense of humor that always sparked a good laugh. He was a devoted Texas A&M Aggie who's blood ran maroon through and through. Conrado will be missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrado and Virginia Lozano of San Benito and brothers Carlos of San Antonio and Oscar of McAllen. He is survived by three sisters: Oralia Williams of Brownsville, Yolanda Garza and husband Dr. Raul Garza of San Benito and Sylvia Trzaskoma and husband retired Lt. General Richard Trzaskoma. In addition he is survived by nephews: Dr. Carlos A. Lozano of San Antonio, Frank Williams III, of Mission, Raul Conrado Lozano of McAllen, Edward Williams of Austin, Oscar Lozano, Jr. of San Antonio, Raul Garza III of Harlingen, Rene Garza of San Benito, Remi Garza of San Benito, Richard Joseph Trzaskoma of Rockwall, Texas and Stephen Trzaskoma of Exeter, New Hampshire, his nieces: Patricia Guillermo Williams of New York City, Linda Lozano of San Antonio, Yvonnilda Muniz of Austin, Annie Lozano of Brownsville, Yvette Lopez of Arlington, Judi Thompson of Austin, Denise Austin of Kingwood, Annie Rodrigues of McAllen and Theresa Trzaskoma of Brooklyn, New York. He is also survived by many grand nephews and grand nieces and one great-grand nephew who all will cherish his memory. Lozano, Frank Williams III, Raul Conrado Lozano, Raul Garza III, Rene Garza, Remi Garza, Richard J. Trzaskoma and Stephen Trzaskoma. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Williams, Oscar Lozano, U.S. Army Captain Austin P. Maples, U.S. Army Lieutenant Cameron D. Maples, David Lozano, Andres Lozano, Elias Lozano, Joseph Trzaskoma, Darren Trzaskoma, Nathan Trzaskoma, Wiley Turner, Malcolm Turner, John Rodrigues and Jacob Rodrigues. Visitation will be held today at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral will be held Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 10:00 am at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church 121 Garrison Dr., San Benito, TX 78586. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
