Maria “Mary” Diaz Matamoros, 79, beloved wife and mother of San Benito, Texas passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023, in Harlingen, Texas. Mary resided with her family in San Benito. Mary attended San Benito High School where she was a member of the greyhound band. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus of San Benito. She was also a parishioner of Saint Teresa Catholic Church where she helped to teach catholic classes and played guitar in the women’s choir. She attended Texas State Technical College and University of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences were she proudly attained her cosmetology degree. She worked at Golden Palms of Harlingen and Irene’s Beauty Salon of San Benito where she loved all her clients who became lifelong friends. Mary will be remembered for her bright smile and caring heart. She was very giving and always willing to help others. She was a beautiful person inside and out and she will be dearly missed by all. She is preceded in death by her father Miguel Diaz, mother Maria Cervantes Diaz, younger brother Guillermo Diaz. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Alberto Matamoros Sr., four daughters Norma Matamoros, Corina (Albert) Martinez, Sylvia (Joel) Garcia, Crystal Matamoros, two son Alberto Matamoros Jr, Ricardo Matamoros as well as 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St, Theresa’s Catholic Church, 1300 Combes St., San Benito, Texas with interment to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
