Obituary of Hernan J. Montemayor
Please share a memory of Hernan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hernan J. Montemayor, 93, San Benito, TX, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 25, 2023.
He was born to Jose A. and Refugia C. Montemayor, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are: his wife of 58 years, Maria Blanca; brothers: Ernesto, Roberto, Gilberto, Ruben, and Ermilo Montemayor; and sister, Elida Phillips.
Left to honor his memory is his family: daughters, Elida (Erasmo) Escobedo and Teresa Montemayor; sons: Herman (Elizabeth), Gilbert (Blanca), Jim (Yvette), and Johnny Joe Montemayor; 13 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
Hernan was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
At an early age, music was Hernan’s calling. His mother, recognizing and encouraging his talent bought him his first guitar. He enjoyed all kinds of music and played in a country-western band, The Rio Ramblers, but praising the Lord with it became his passion as he led the choir at the 5:30 p.m. Saturday mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church until his health did not permit.
He and his wife, Blanca, were very active at Our Lady Queen of the Universe and St. Joseph’s parishes. He served as Eucharistic minister, lector, baptismal class instructor, helped with communion service, and helped organize the St. Joseph’s Prayer Group.
Hernan served his country in the National Guard with the 112th Armed Cavalry Regiment ending his 2 terms as corporal in 1954.
He managed a water bottling company and learned refrigeration and air conditioning which he later did for a living and eventually taught at a technical school.
As his health declined, Hernan spent his remaining years under his loved one’s care.
