Carlos V. Rivera, 87, of Laguna Vista passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Carlos was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a shrimper for over 20 years and retired from the Point Isabel Independent School District where he worked as Maintenance and as a Bus Driver. He enjoyed playing softball, going to bingo and dancing, but most of all; he loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. He was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his father Martin Rivera; his mother Manuela Villarreal Guerrero; brothers, Juan, Antonio, and Roberto Rivera; wife, Maria Teresa E. Rivera, (son-in law) Charles Estes; brother-in-law, Pedro Cantu; and 2nd wife Guadalupe Rivera; 2 great granddaughters, Carolyn DeAnna and Alexa Hope Fernandez. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Carlos Rivera Jr., Juan Eduardo (Linda) Rivera, Albert (Lucy) Rivera, Larry (Eliza) Rivera, and Victor Jaime (Erica) Rivera; daughter, Diana Estes; stepchildren, Maria Zulema (Roberto) Torres, Myra Valdez, Abel (Brenda) Martinez, Arturo (Margaret) Martinez and Jose “Butch” (Sandy) Martinez; 2 brothers, Jose (Lucy) Rivera, and Vicente (Maria) Guerrero and 1 sister, Guadalupe Cantu; sister-in-law, Cresencia C. Rivera, 44 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren; several nephews, nieces and other relatives. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 26, 2023, at from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, January 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St., Port Isabel, TX with cremation to follow in accordance with his wishes.
