Abel Garcia, 73, of Los Fresnos, Texas, entered eternal life with our heavenly Father on December 9, 2022. Mr. Garcia was preceded in death by his wife, Maria DeJesus Garcia, his parents Mr. Juan Garcia Sr. and Mrs. Nazaria Garcia, Brothers Juan Garcia Jr. (Juanita) and Ruben Garcia (Juanita), Sister, Carolina Gonzalez. Left to cherish his life and memory are his daughter, Carmen Moreno, his sisters, Manuela Cortez (Alfonso) and Lucila Bernal (Joe) and his brothers, Carlos Garcia (Isabel) and Uvaldo Garcia (Betty). Mr. Abel Garcia graduated from the Los Fresnos High School in 1969. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and proudly served his country for four years. During these four years, he served honorably in Vietnam and Thailand. Mr. Garcia was awarded numerous Medals for outstanding performance and service to the U. S. Air Force. On March 15, 1974, Mr. Garcia was honorably discharged from the U. S. Air Force. Mr. Garcia continued to serve his country and local community by dedicating his service as a law enforcement officer with the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department (Jail Division). During this time, he rose through the ranks and finally retired on April 30, 2002, as a Lieutenant. Mr. Garcia was a long-life member of the Santa Cecilia Catholic Church in Los Fresnos, Texas. Serving as Pallbearers will be his nephews, Ruben Garcia Jr., Jesus Garcia, Joe Bernal Jr., Gabriel Bernal, Alex Bernal, Abel Gonzalez Jr., Johnny Gonzalez, and Ernesto Abrego. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, TX. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, December 15, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Our Heavenly Father Catholic Church, 9178 Tomas Cortez Jr St, Olmito, TX 78575 with interment to follow at Los Cuates Cemetery in Los Fresnos, Texas.
