Jose Gutierrez, 89, of San Benito, went to be with our Lord, on October 4, 2022, at Harlingen Medical Center. He is preceded in death by his loving parents; Pedro Gutierrez and Maria Rosales, along with his siblings, Miro Gutierrez, Guadalupe Lupe Gutierrez, Ester Chavarria, and Estella Trevino. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Rita C. Gutierrez. Also surviving are his children; Lupita (Israel) Martinez, and their children; Johnny Ray Martinez, Israel Ray Martinez, Joseph Anthony Martinez, and Alexander Ignacio Martinez, Jose Carlos Gutierrez, Arnold Gutierrez (Laura Naranjo), and their children; Kaitlyn Jo Ramos, and Kaleb Arnold Gutierrez, along with his surviving brothers; Andres Gutierrez and Pedro (Nito) Gutierrez. And last but not least, his amazing caretaker Braulio Mendoza. Jose felt compelled to heed the call to arms and proudly served in the U. S. Army, in the Korean war. He also worked with Hygeia in Harlingen for 25 years; and was a bus driver for the Harlingen CISD. He was a die-hard Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboys fan. He was the type of man who always put others before himself, no matter what the cost. He was a man who really loved and cherished his family. Visitation will be held Friday, October 7, 2022, at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, from 5 pm to 9 pm, with a recitation of the Holy Rosary to be held at 7 pm. A Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 10 am at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in San Benito, with burial to follow to San Benito City Cemetery.
