San Benito, TX - Juan Rivera, 61, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at his residence in San Benito, Texas. Juan was no stranger to hard work, as he started off young in the cotton fields, and even prided himself as having worked on one of the expansions to the Darrel K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium for The University of Texas at Austin in his early adulthood. Those who knew Juan best would describe him as sweet, caring, funny and a hopeless romantic. Not to mention, he was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. His personality was that of no other and one that will be greatly missed. He is now reunited in heaven with his daughter: María de Jesús Rivera, parents: Canuto Rivera and María de Jesús Rivera: brother Canuto Rivera Jr.; and many other relatives. He is survived by his children: Juan Rivera Jr. of Monterrey, Mexico, Vanessa Ramos of Midland, Texas, Maria Maura Rivera of San Luis Potosí, Mexico and Angelica Moreno of Ottumwa, Iowa; Grandchildren: Sergio Suarez Jr., Angel Castillo and Yamila Castillo of Midland, and Chelsea Ibarra of Monterrey, Mexico. He is also survived by his brother Jose L. Gonzalez of McAllen, TX and sisters, Maria de Rosario (Matthew) McColley of Sabula, IA and Leticia (Letty) Rivera of San Benito, Tx. Lastly, he leaves behind one nephew: David L. Gonzalez of Corpus Christi, Tx, one niece: Veronica L. Rivera of Austin, Tx, and two recent great nephews: Mateó S. C. Rivera (Austin) and Matthew González (Corpus). Visitation will be held at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito on Sunday, August 28, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM with cremation to follow.
