Our nation sadly lost Sgt. Matthew Fernandez on July 16, 2022, to a fatal accident, at the age of 24, in Ft. Hood, TX. Sgt. Fernandez the heart and soul of his community, and his family. Matthew, a Texas native, was born on September 18, 1997, and raised in San Benito, TX. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle. Matthew had a heart and soul of gold, and always had a smile on his face. Sgt. Fernandez is survived by loving wife, Teri Lynn Fernandez; parents, Martin Fernandez Sr. and Alicia Mendiola Fernandez; siblings Angelica Maria Fernandez, Veronica Fernandez Ramirez, Martin Fernandez Jr; a very good family friend who is considered as a brother, Juan Guadalupe Alvarez, nieces and nephews, Aaliyah, Andrea, Marcus, Joseph Jr., Andrew, Leroy Jr., Leonardo, Violet and Shayla, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Matthew is now with his baby watching over their loved ones. Sgt. Fernandez is preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Uvaldo Fernandez and Juanita B. Fernandez; maternal grandparents, Juan Mendiola and Marcela Mendiola. Forever in our hearts. May he Rest In Peace Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 noon at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 351 S Bowie St, San Benito, TX with interment to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
