Evangelina G Peña our loving mother, 93 years old was called home by the Lord the evening of Monday, June 6, 2022, at VBMC in Harlingen, Texas. She was born January 20, 1929, in Lozano, Texas to Juan and Melquiades Gonzalez. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years David H Peña. Evangelina loved God, her family and gardening. At a very early age of 12 years old, she became head of her three other siblings and then married at the age of 15. She was a very independent, humble, and frugal person. After her children were all in school, she was employed at Levi Straus for 23 years as an inspector of blue jeans. Throughout time, she purchased three rental properties to leave as inheritance for each one of her children. After retirement, she volunteered at Way of the Cross for over 25 years. One of her favorite sayings was “in Jesus’ name” for whatever her circumstance or body aches she had. And her other delights were family gatherings, gardening, neighbors, baking apple pies, as well as feeding stray cats and birds. Evangelina is survived by her children: Daughter: Enedelia P Allison; Grandson: Earl (Cynthia) Brown from Caddo, Oklahoma; Great Grandchildren: Patric Dyln and Ky’u Son: Rene (Maria) Peña; Grandchildren: Annette (Manuel) Guillen, Daniel Peña, Jason (Tessa) Peña; Great Grandchildren: Anthony, Michael, Abraham, Madeline Guillen, Nicolas, Gabriel Peña, Jayla & Jason Peña Jr; Great-Great Grandchildren: Dean and Charlotte Guillen. Son: David (Elida) Peña Jr; Granddaughter: Monica (Jeremy) Cisneros; Great Grandchildren: Eli and Leo Cisneros. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A Chapel Service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home with interment to follow to Mont Meta Memorial Park.
