Maria Del La Luz Portilla, 87, of La Paloma, went to be with our Lord, on April 29, 2022 at Windsor Atrium in Harlingen. She is preceded in death by her loving parents; Juan and Inez Cardoza , husband, Eugenio Portilla, a sibling, Manuel Cardoza and grandson Javier Ortiz. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Petra (Emilio)Ortiz, Rosario Sandoval, Martina (Joe) Maldonado, Sylvia Portillo and Veronica Ortiz. Also surviving is her sister Angela Garza, 16 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren, along with numerous other family members. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 5 pm to 9 pm, at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary to be held at 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 1 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in La Paloma. Interment will follow to La Paloma Cemetery, in La Paloma. All individuals are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by socially distancing a minimum space of 6 feet apart and must wear face covers or masks.
