Rio Hondo, Texas – Agapito V. Ortega, 56, of Rio Hondo, Texas, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022, in Harlingen, Texas surrounded by his loving family. Agapito (Piri) loved fishing for the best catch. He waited for a perfect day to play golf. His roosters were never without companionship. He always played his lucky numbers in the lotto. Coaching little league football was a fulfilling passion. He will tremendously be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was the life of the party with his dancing moves. He lived his life to the fullest. Agapito was a fan of the King, Elvis Presley, and as he said, “I did it my way.” He is preceded in death by his father, Amadeo Ortega. Agapito is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Esmeralda G. Ortega; two sons: Agapito (Gina) Ortega Jr., Adam Ortega, his mother Emilia V. Ortega, brothers, Rene Ortega, Abel Ortega, and sister Vanessa Ortega Salinas (Johnny), 2 grandchildren Gabby and Agapito Ortega III and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 20th, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 21st, 2022 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Rio Hondo, Texas. Interment will follow at Las Yescas Cemetery. All individuals attending services are encouraged to socially distance and wear face covers or masks.
