Raymond Doherty, 82, of San Benito, Texas passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. Raymond Doherty was a Veteran of the US Air Force. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, yet a highly disciplined man who always said “Do what I teach you, not what I do”. His military training made him a tough man but had his sensible side deep inside. Through the tough skin of discipline he loved to be humorous and would find and create humor in even the worst moments of his life. He’d cheer you up with his jokes and punts regardless of health conditions or any sadness in your life. He will always be remembered as the strongest and most honorable man in our lives. He will be greatly missed and forever carried in our mind and heart. He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond Doherty Jr. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Florentina R Doherty; daughter, Rosie Ellen Doherty; sons, Michael Anthony Doherty, Joseph Stephen Doherty, Robert Alonso, Jose Reiberth Alonso; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren also their loving pet Mona Doherty. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 18, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday April 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1300 Combes St, San Benito, TX with a 1:00 p.m. interment to follow to Rio Grande Valley State Veteran's Cemetery, 2520 Inspiration Rd, Mission, TX. All individuals attending services are encouraged to socially distance and wear face covers or masks.
