" Bad Gilbert & Lean Mean Fighting Machine" Gilberto Bernal Jr., 64, of Port Isabel, TX passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loved ones on February 20, 2022. He was born on May 22, 1957. Gilbert lived life to the fullest and by his own rules. He played hard, he worked hard, and he made no apologies for the life he lived. With a quick smile and an infectious laugh, every person he encountered could not help but be charmed by him. He laughed, loved, and lived his life hard & fast. May we all take a page from his book and enjoy the time we have together. Remember him as his friends and family will; the strongest and bravest of us all. He is preceded in death by his father: Gilberto Bernal Sr.; sister: Mary Bernal-Ray. Gilbert is survived by his mother: Enriqueta Bernal-Pena: daughters: Christina Marie Bernal and Ronda Concannon: brothers and sisters; Richard Bernal, Isabel Valdez and Lucy Puente: grandchildren: Cherith Journey Bernal (Nicolas Flores), Jamis Bernal(Maya Rausch), Jadyn Rayne, Jesslyn Sage, Declan Caris Concannon and Braeden Paric Concannon: greatgrandchildren: Michael Valentin Flores, Matthew Alexander Flores and Violet Mabel Bernal as well as his nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2022, from 5:00 p.m., until 9:00 p.m., with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday , February 25, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church located at 705 S. Longoria Street in Port Isabel Texas. A 11:00 a.m. graveside service will be held on Tuesday March 1, 2022 at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission Texas. All individuals are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by socially distancing a minimum space of 6 feet apart and face covers or masks are recommended.
