Guadalupe P. Cortez passed away peacefully at Valley Baptist Medical Center at the age of 96 on January 19, 2022. Guadalupe was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was generous, loving, friendly, wise, and was loved by those whose lives she touched. Her sweet spirit and beautiful smile were well-known among family, friends and anyone who was blessed to meet her. She is preceded in death by her husband Juan O. Cortez, daughter Maria Elena Avila and grandson, Frederico Avila. Left to cherish her memory are her five remaining children Juanita Ramirez and husband Luis, Leonides Cortez and wife Dolores, Juan Cortez and wife Irene, Eva Cortez, Irene Ovalle and husband George and her grandchildren M. Linda Gonzalez, Diana Sanchez, M. Angelina Juarez, Ileen X. Martinez, Gracie Avila, Christy S. Muñoz, Martin V. Soriano Jr. and Veronica Alvarez and 17 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday, February 7, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 351 S Bowie St, San Benito, TX. with interment to follow to Mont Meta Memorial Park. All individuals are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by socially distancing a minimum space of 6 feet apart and face covers or masks are recommended.
